Art of Doing

For lasting comfort
Align actions with values.
Do the (hard) right thing.

Comfort/pleasure is important. Life well lived is at the intersection of meaning and pleasure. Meaning comes from philosophy/religion/value system. Pleasure comes from doing things that aligns with that ideology.

The art of doing is to bridge the gap between knowing ad doing by: a) Planing ahead to do the right things and b) If distractions strike, using will-power and doing the hard, right thing anyway.

Planning ahead

Basically writing down a to-do list, assigning priorities and scheduling them in calendar and checking things off as they get done. If it ain't scheduled, it ain't happenin'.
Schedule your todo's.
Design your environment.
Set up for success.

Dealing with distractions

Even with a plan, non-planned distractions pop up. How to not allow distractions to screw up your plans ? Tackling this requires some personality traits: calmness, clarity of thought & resilience.

Mindfulness training seems to be a good way to build these traits. In mindfulness training, the intention is to pay attention to your 'automatic' breathing and when the mind wavers as thoughts pop up, observe the thought and non-judgmentally bring the attention back to the breathing.
Turn your attention
To act on clear intention.
Glide through distractions.
